The Association’s Vision
Everyone has the right to self‑determination and an independent life, in accordance with Article 19 of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).
At the JAG Association, we are working to build a Finland where people with complex disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, are recognized as equal members of society. Our goal is a society in which everyone has decision‑making power over their own lives and access to sufficient personal assistance to support independent living and full participation.
The Association’s Values
1. Self‑Determination
Each individual is the expert on their own life. We believe that everyone—regardless of their method of communication—has the will and, with the right support, the ability to express their preferences. Decision‑making belongs to the person, not to the system.
2. Equality
Everyone has equal rights in society, including the right to housing, community, and relationships—regardless of disability.
3. The Right to One’s Own Home
Institutions and institution‑like housing are not the same as having a home. Personal assistance makes it possible to live in an environment and in a way that a person chooses for themselves.
4. Community
We strive to create an atmosphere where everyone feels welcome, regardless of background or prior experience.
5. Participation and Influence
People with disabilities must have genuine opportunities to influence matters that affect their own lives and society’s structures.n“Nothing about us without us.”
